Slag control in open hearth melting
Mathematical statistical methods were used to examine variation in slag analysis during melting period, and correlation was found between chemical composition and desulfurizing and dephosphorizing capacity, and also foaming capacity on which depends transfer of heat and of oxygen from slag to metal; variation in foaming index and fluidity of slag during melting was analyzed; recommendations are made for changes in amount of limestone in charge.
