Tests of bolted butt splices
Results of experimental studies of constructional alloy (A514) steel butt splices fastened by A325 bolts and of experimental studies on hybrid steel joints fastened by A490 and A325 bolts; results are compared to theoretical studies on ultimate strength and distribution of load among fasteners; slip coefficient of grit-blasted steel faying surface is approximately 0.34; use of higher allowable shear stresses for A325 and A490 bolts in bearing-type connections is shown to be appropriate.
