Influence of temperature of first tempering on transition curves of 35 CrMn5 and 38 NiCrMo4 steels is examined and effect of presence of lead explored; results for both steels show that with increase of temperature of initial tempering, uniform lowering of transition temperature (considered as beginning of brittle fracture) occurs; presence of lead does not increase temperature at initiation of brittle fracture, but in contrast, in 38 NiCrMo4 steel light displacement of transition curves toward lower temperatures takes place.
