Consolidation under constant rates of strain
Consolidation tests on three materials were conducted by inducing six different constant rates of strain on samples; total load on sample, pore pressure at base and deformation were measured; theoretical solution was developed to enable determination of coefficient of consolidation, compression index, and preconsolidation pressure; it is shown that consolidation parameters determined by method used agree with parameters determined by conventional testing method; procedure can be used to study strain rate sensitivity of cohesive soils to consolidation loads.
