Sand compaction with vibratory rollers
Investigation of factors influencing sand compaction with vibratory smooth-wheeled rollers; soil density determinations were made in test pits before and after compaction of 8-ft high test embankment and two successive 2-ft lifts; comparisons are made between compacted density-depth profiles for 2,5,15, and 45 roller coverages and for several different roller operating frequencies; measurements of roller drum acceleration and dynamic stress and acceleration in soil at various depths below roller are used to identify some of mechanisms controlling vibratory compaction.
