A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Attempt to exhibit plastic limit theorems in terms of civil engineering; interpretation of continuous velocity region as limiting case of infinitely many rigid blocks separated by surfaces of discontinuity, provides technique for obtaining energy dissipation needed for upper boundcalculations on plastic limit load; approach of imagining pin-connected truss to support loads provides technique for obtaining lower bounds; graphical procedure is introduced; problems of loaded truncated wedge and wedge under unilateral pressure are treated as examples; friction effects on bearing capacity of foundations are discussed.
