Dynamic model of anaerobic digestion process
Features of model are use of inhibition function to relate volatile acid concentration and specific growth rate for methane bacteria, and consideration of un-ionized acid as growth-limiting substrate and inhibiting agent; experimental evidence and evidence from bacteriological literature are presented; simulation studies, using digital-analog simulation program, of batch and continuous flow systems provide additional evidence by predicting results observed during start-up, failure, or recovery of anaerobic digesters.
