Behavior of dry sands under cyclic loading
Stress-strain characteristics of dry sands under cyclic loading; within range of stress and acceleration studied, soil deformation consisted primarily of shear deformation; while volumetric compression of soil increases under cyclic loading, its contribution to total strain remains small; magnitude of principal stress ratio, above which large strains may develop under vibration, is dependent on confining pressure; for foundation vibration problems, strong influence of confining pressure implies that rather important size effect may arise.
