Ponding of liquids on flat roofs
Expressions are developed for moments and deflections of simply-supported, prismatic beams subjected to various loading conditions simultaneous with ponding; simply-supported beam problem is generalized by means of Fourier series to handle any loading condition plus initial crookedness; examination of analogy between ponded beam and vibrating beam problem reveals why critical ponding factor is function of end conditions and is independent of type of applied load.
