Steel roof of New National Gallery in Berlin; all-welded construction consists of 19 plate girders 64.8 m long, 1.8 m high placed at 3.6 m c to c; 19 transverse girders together with cover sheets form lattice of cubes open on bottom side; after completion of structure on temporary supports 1.50 m above floor, eight steel columns were hinged to bottom flanges of edge beams, roof was lifted by eight hydraulic lifting frames until columns swung into vertical position, and columns were bolted to previously constructed bearings; stress analysis, welding operations, and construction sequence.
