Temperature durations at various depths in bituminous roads
Measurements were made of duration for which temperatures in air, and at various depths in two flexible road sections, were within successive ranges of 5 C between minus 10 C and plus 50 C; each section had 4 in. of rolled asphalt surfacing and 10 in. hoggin sub-base; 10 in. bases were rolled asphalt and lean concrete; results are presented in several tables and graphs; temperatures in wearing courses ranged from minus 10 C to plus 50 C with small ranges at lower depths; upper three layers of section with asphalt base were warmer for longer periods than those in other section.
