Logical design of optimum skid-resistant surfaces
Logical sequence is suggested for design of optimum skid-resistant pavements; mean wavelength and slope of texture may be determined from drainage requirements at average maximum speed for section of pavement under consideration, and values may be checked by demands of hysteresis contribution to friction in skidding mode; it is estimated that for practical road surfaces, wavelength lies in range 3 to 20 mm, and microroughness has order to magnitude of at least 10 to 100 μ.
