Aspects of design of integrated viaduct system in relation to road network in Birkenhead and its relieving effect on local traffic; choice of spans and structural material is considered and basis of structural design of composite construction column-superstructure junction is discussed; fabrication and erection of structural steelwork; development of design of crosshead; quarter full-size model of this part of structure is described together with tests on model; measurements and results required, and performance of various structural elements is discussed in detail.
