Temperature-dependent strength characteristics of sand-asphalt mixtures
Quantitative evaluation of effect of asphalt content, temperature, and rate of strain on unconfined compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of sand-asphalt mixtures at temperature encountered in highway service conditions; asphaltic mixture with three asphalt contents was tested at three strain rates at from -22 to 140 F; data indicate that between low temperatures near apparent glass transition point of pure asphalt and high temperatures, variation of modulus of elasticity with temperature is exponential; differences in structural strength and behavior of asphaltic pavements under traffic loading conditions during various seasons of year are suggested by results.
