A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Central feature of dock reconstruction scheme is new entrance from River Mersey in form of lock 825 ft long × 130 ft wide, with approximately 50 ft of water on sills at high water spring tides and 20 ft at low water; lock is provided with 3 sliding caisson type gates; Langton Dock has been deepened by dredging, and maneuvering space made available for vessels; new river wall has been constructed, allowing deep approach fairway to be dredged and gaining extra width for berths on west side of Canada Dock; new quays, impounding station and other improvements are described.
