Extension of 2-ft length, welded to 8-ton hydraulic crane telescoping boom enabled speeding up of erection of supporting steel in New York's new Sixth Avenue subway tunnel; stub made possible setting of cap beams with only 8 in. clearance between top of steel and roof of tunnel.
