Carbonation shrinkage of concrete masonry units
Results of several series of tests on carbonation of concrete block conducted during last 9 yr in laboratories of Portland Cement Assn are summarized; continued studies showed that, in relatively porous type of concrete used in block, carbonation shrinkage may amount to large percentage of shrinkage which has been generally attributed to water loss only; laboratory tests performed to determine conditions conducive to carbonation and effect of carbonation on volume stability of concrete masonry units, reported.
