Practical recommendations for planning roof supports in drifts
Drifts have to be driven through solid and stable rocks; pressure zones have to be avoided; arched or circular drifts are recommended in pressure resistant rocks; use of cutting machines during drifting preserves rock stability; latter may be increased by impregnation with resin or by grouting, along with anchoring; prevention of detrimental effect of weathering is possible by spraying resin or concrete; details on supports used in drifts of West German mines.
