Study of mechanism through which calcium chloride accelerates set of portland cement
In tests, samples of portland cement, tricalcium aluminate and tricalcium silicate were weighed out in individual test tubes; into each test tube were placed 10 ml of calcium chloride solution; ratio of calcium chloride to cement was adjusted to about 1 to 20 by weight; water to cement ratio was about 20 to 1 by weight; samples were shaken for specified intervals of time at room temperature before determining amount of chloride that had reacted.
