Concrete bridge deck placed on gravel fill
Bridge deck was placed on fill consisting of 30,000 tons of type 1 gravel compacted 95% Proctor density for bulk, and to 100% Proctor for last 2 ft at top, in underpass project near Winnipeg, Man, because poor loadbearing qualities of soil presented extreme danger of settlement, ruling out use of customary falsework to pour heavy concrete deck; pile driving for retaining wall described.
