Strengthening old masonry arch bridge with concrete keys
Old masonry arch bridge across Cauvery River, India, developed signs of distress, as result of which severe restrictions were imposed on traffic; condition of existing structure and results of analysis of theoretical stresses and deflections due to standard loadings is described; method of strengthening included insertion of concrete keys and lifting to its original level arch which had sagged; deflections measured after strengthening are indicated.
