Analytical calculation of limit carrying capacity of isotropic bars subject to torsion
In case of homogeneous isotropic body problem of torsion reduces to finding stress function which satisfies gradient of function; A. Nadai (1923) noticed analogy with hill of perfectly loose sand; in case of simply connected region there is also analogy of boundary condition on contour so that determination of stress distribution and of limit moment (torque) reduce to determination of surface of uniform slope of hill and of volume carried by this surface; general expression for determination of values is given.
