Bowstring arch is usually highly indeterminate structure, and analytical difficulties have hindered its use; method of analysis which removes many of these difficulties; initial solution is first obtained, assuming that deflections of tie beam at points of suspension are prevented; particular solution corrected by considering incompatibilities between forces and extensions in suspension rods.
