Mathematical examination of highway transition spiral
In design and construction of safe, high speed superhighways, one of most important problems involved is that of horizontal curvature accompanied with proper superelevation; rational solution of this problem is adaptation of transition spiral, whose curvature varies inversely as arc length; mathematical treatment of transition curve and its properties is presented. (See also - discussions n 9, 10, Oct p 1443-66, Dec p 1545-50)
