It is shown how 66 in. diam, 770 ft long water intake pipe on Columbia River near Arrow Dam project is assembled on shore, launched on log rollways, and lowered into place above river bottom by winches mounted on timber pile bents; pipe line is designed to bring river water to 116-ft-high pumphouse; temporary launching bents consist of piles, with timber beam across tops to carry winch; pipe is lowered by eight of these bends at 96-ft intervals; permanent pile bents will hold pipe off river bottom.
