Effect of plastic prestrains on low cycle fatigue behavior of titanium
Study presents evaluation of influence of large plastic prestrains, both tensile and compressive, on room temperature static tensile ductility and low cycle fatigue resistance of commercially pure titanium, RS-70; fatigue failures at lives ranging from 1/4 to 103 cycles were examined; number of polished "hourglass-shaped" specimens were tested to failure in static tension following application of axial plastic precompressive strains of various magnitudes; fatigue tests were conducted on specimens of virgin titanium and on specimens initially subjected to two levels of plastic precompressive strain; tests were performed at nominal strain ratios of 0, 1/2, and 3/4.
