Stability investigations of north bank of Drammen river
Slip which occurred in 1955 and stable length of bank are considered; it is shown that total stress analysis seriously underestimates stability of these natural soft silty clay slopes, and method, therefore, cannot be used to estimate long-term stability; Bishop's analysis (see Engineering Index 1955 p 975) gives reliable estimate of stability of slopes; results of comprehensive series of triaxial tests show that same strength envelope is obtained from consolidated drained triaxial tests, independent of type of test.
