Special features of civil engineering works at Aberthaw power station
Circulating water works of coal-fired power station at exposed site in South Wales are described, with particular reference to intake for which cylindrical reinforced concrete caisson was constructed on shore and floated out to sea to intake site; design, construction, floating out, and landing of caisson are described, together with other works carried out in-situ under difficult conditions; another special feature is turbine house which accommodates 6100-Mw machines at 80-ft centers; structural frame consists of precast prestressed units; their design, construction, and erection described.
