A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Compaction of sand or gravel subsoils up to 90 ft thick is now possible by vibroflotation process, which offers foundation engineer useful alternative to piled foundations in some situations; deep compaction process is method of adding soil to loose sand, gravel or silt strata so that density of subsoil is increased and thus made stronger; settlement under foundation loading is virtually eliminated and bearing capacity is increased.
