Constructional measures for safety of dikes and dams
Safety is mainly soil mechanics problem dealing with prevention of water penetration into earth body and thereby maintaining its stability; safety techniques require knowledge of soil characteristics, properties of building materials, as well as experience in use of protective coatings (e.g. asphalt) and of other protective measures against water pressure and effects of water motion, such as stone paving, stone fill, bulkheads, and drainage.
