Pennsylvania glass sand streamlines mining methods
Latest hydraulic dredging techniques were introduced at Newport, NJ plant to provide increased efficiency in mining, handling and storing silica; 12 in. hydraulic dredge can transport material over extended pipe line lengths as size of pit increases; dredge, capable of operating to depth of 40 ft can easily mine material from average 35-ft below-water-level depth of pits; cutterhead can dig into clay and sand agglomerate; capable of pumping material through maximum pipe line length of 4000 ft, dredge has total of 910 connected hp.
