Test on one-twelfth scale model of dome shell roof for Smithfield poultry market
Model test was conducted to study behavior of shell in design of elliptical paraboloid concrete shell roof that was considerably larger and flatter than any similar shell previously built; mortar model was required to investigate ultimate load as well as elastic conditions; techniques used in construction, prestressing and loading of model are shown; number of strain and deflection measurements and observations of crack development were conducted and results are described.
