Cables grouted into bedrock brace high retaining walls
Before opening pit in ground to build station for Montreal's new subway system, excavation was outlined with picket line of cast-in-place concrete piles; as hole was deepened in 10-ft lifts, each pile was anchored to bedrock with four sloping tie-back tendons; reinforced gunite webbing between exposed piles completed retaining structure, which holds up 60-ft banks with buildings on top.
