Flow in river bends
Tests of largesized outdoor models of various bends on Mississippi River built and operated by staff of U S Waterways Experiment Station; analysis of data discrediting helicoidal theory of flow; bearded grains of oats as indicators of direction and manner of movement of bed load; bed material found to move toward convex side of bend, although there was no definite flow of water in that direction. (See also - n 8 Aug discussion p 471)
