Elephant and castle shopping centre
Design and construction at large new shopping center which forms part of London County Council redevelopment scheme in Elephant and Castle district; cost analysis of wide range of different types of building structures was carried out to determine cheapest type structure adapted to complex requirements of building; problem of uplift of subway tunnels underlying site due to removal of large volume of excavation was investigated; entire building was designed area by area to resist flotation, due to its light weight and large head of water at basement level.
