Sewer tunnels with diameters ranging from 2.75 to 4 m and total length of 79 km conduct waste water to Acheres sewage treatment plants; construction of these tunnels crossing through deep hills and rivers by means of siphons caused great difficulties due to extremely variable soil conditions (moving sands, groundwater, etc); various construction methods developed for particular sewer sections as well as some notable features of these works are described.
