Roof of lightgage steel will span basketball arena at University of New Mexico, Albuquerque; roof exploits stressed-skin principle to achieve its span; basic elements are fluted metal panels of 20 to 13-gage thickness (.0359 to .0897 in.) formed with 3-in. corrugations; bolted together, they become continuously stiffened member; very long spans use both roof and ceiling panels joined together by lightgage, U-shaped crossed diagonal struts; air conditioning system and utilities are installed in roof; insulation will be treated paper pulp sprayed on underside of roof panels.
