Factors affecting surface quality of stainless steel sheets
Surface quality was greatly improved by stage heating of ingots in soaking pits of reduction mills, by high quality of surface of rolls in roughing stand and by improved design of entry and delivery guides; temperature of heating slabs was lowered; alkaline treatment and improved pickling methods were introduced; intensive cooling of cast iron rolls by h-p water reduced roll wear to one third.
