Toronto experiments with snow-melting system on expressway on-and-off ramps
Tests carried out by metropolitan roads department of Toronto, Ont, on method of placing electric heating elements in roadway, immediately under driving surface, with view toward using this method on all ramps of elevated sections of Gardiner expressway, are described; practicability of method, type of heating element to be used, construction details, minimum number of watts per sq ft of pavement required to melt snow, and load characteristics were investigated.
