London-south wales motorway
Design features and construction of Chiswick-Langley section of London-South Wales highway including 2 mi viaduct; elevated road has total length of 9894 ft of which first 6314 ft are of concrete construction, and remainder of steel with reinforced concrete deck; specially developed gantry running on way-beams between crossheads, raised and positioned 4000 prestressed concrete beams for concrete section of viaduct; steel safety fences were provided down both sides of each roadway while steel balustrade gives additional protection on outer edges of viaduct; emergency telephones have been provided at 1/4 mi intervals along both sides of viaduct; gulleys are provided every 60 ft at low side of each roadway; drainage, heating, lighting and traffic control of highway.
