Calculations are based on unit stresses inherent in system and design loads of materials; depending on pavement design, calculations are based on isotropic semi-infinite body, elastic foundation or layered system for which theory of elasticity applies; this requires introduction of dynamic elasticity modulus, which is time and temperature dependent, for bituminous materials.
