Field evaluation of nuclear gages used in compaction control of embankments
Study was designed to evaluate nuclear moisture density gages under actual field conditions and to determine feasibility of using gages to control material compaction in highway construction; complete density measurement system was used on varied construction and soil types in Pennsylvania; gages were used in field for one full year, and results were compared to sand-cone method for determining soil density and oven-drying and speedy moisture methods of determining moisture content.
