Viscosity-temperature relationships of bituminous materials
Study includes viscosity-temperature data of different grades of road tars and asphaltic bitumens through temperature range of normal service to application temperatures; inadequacy of specifying temperature range for application of bituminous materials derived from different sources for highway construction is shown; laboratory investigation shows that resistance to deformation of bituminous pavements depends upon viscosity of binder at corresponding service temperature; control of consistency in terms of viscosity at 140 F is suggested in specifications for bituminous materials.
