Leca is extracted from clay and shale deposits; with heat treatment its grain size expands to 0 to 20 mm with number of voids within grains; so far Leca has been used as aggregate for light weight concrete; partial results of tests for Leca with bituminous binders " Lecabit" used for sub-bases where its impervious qualities make frost preventing layer of gravel unnecessary; specifications for mixing and transporting of Lecabit, which should be spread at 120 C.
