A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Lower Mississippi River improvement as example of comprehensive river stabilization is discussed; this type of river improvement, which lends itself to stage construction, is of great significance to inhabitants of unimproved alluvial rivers in undeveloped areas of world; first stage, securing of gently-sinuous single channel stream by means of cutoff and corrective dredging, will contribute substantial measure of flood control, some drainage improvement, improved navigation, fish and wild-life benefits, and other water resources purposes for few years, pending obtaining capital needed for complete stabilization.
