Mathematical procedure to determine minimum base lengths of cantilever retaining wall is developed by satisfying limiting values of soil bearing pressure and minimum factors of safety against overturning and sliding; numerical tables are provided for T and L shaped walls, giving most economic and safe base dimensions for heights between 2 and 36 ft, allowable bearing pressures from 1 to 7 kips/sq ft, and angles of internal friction from 20 to 33° 40 min; tables include bearing stress ordinates at both ends of base, gravity and soil pressures acting on wall, minimum factors of safety against overturning and sliding, as well as concrete thicknesses and steel areas at critical sections.
