Nonmetallic inclusions in rails with various methods of deoxidation
Brittle oxide inclusions which most effectively reduce fatigue strength of rails can be eliminated by deoxidizing steel in ladle without using aluminum (calcium-silicon and ferro-vanadium are used instead); extent to which steel is contaminated by inclusions should be evaluated not only by average rating according to GOST 1778-62 but also according to length of strings of inclusions. (see also English translation in Stal in English n 6 June 1965 p 490-2)
