Structural action of pile cluster dolphins
Dolphins were investigated for three cases in which piles are rigidly fastened at their heads, shear flexibility is permitted between piles, and plastic yield is permitted in soil; it is shown that shear flexibility increased efficiency of structure, and yielding increased strength and energy absorption; formula is obtained that gives elastic energy absorption capacities of dolphins of standard geometry.
