Hong Kong's new ocean terminal nears completion
Ocean Terminal is claimed to be world's only major pier which combines comprehensive passenger and cargo services with community amenities; 1250 ft long, 250 ft wide pier structure of precast, reinforced concrete beam and slab deck with in situ concrete topping carried on 1217 prestressed hollow concrete piles of 2 ft 4 in. OD with 4 1/2 in. walls; five-story terminal building superstructure, 1025×190 ft, superimposed over jetty, is carried on 320 precast segmented reinforced concrete cylinders of 6 ft or 4 ft 6 in. OD with 6 in. walls providing total of 850,000 sq ft of floor space for various services.
