Response of plate to plane dilatational and distortional waves is examined; explicit expressions are derived for plate deflection, bending moment, and reflection coefficients; several special cases such as normal incidence, grazing incidence, and wave incidence -- for which plate effect vanishes -- are examined; diagrams show deflection and bending moment as functions of angle of emergence, frequency, and plate-subgrade parameters; modifications of equations, if perfect bond between plate and half-space is assumed, are examined.
